Eileen’s Story
I’m ok, so everybody should be ok.” That was the mantra that Eileen Ruebsam lived by, according to her son, Mike. Eileen passed away in 2018 having never established a fund or even made a donation to London Community Foundation, but she was watching us keenly and felt strongly about what we do. “She followed LCF for a long time and believed in what you are doing. She wasn’t able to distribute funds or put in the governance like you’re able to do, and that’s what she trusted.”
Imagine our surprise then, when we found out that Eileen had left us over $1.9 million of unrestricted money towards our Community Fund in her will.

After my heart attack, I began to think that, oh, dear, I should think about this. I had two quite large life insurance policies. I named my fund the beneficiary of one of those policies, and LCF’s general fund the beneficiary of the other.

Lorraine Ivey Shuttleworth Society
Lorraine Ivey Shuttleworth was a pioneer in the power of unrestricted giving. Converting her own fund into the Foundation’s operating endowment and driving much of LCF’s granting through the Community Fund for many years through her own giving, it is thanks to her leadership and forward-thinking approach that LCF is the organization it is today.
Named in her honour, the Lorraine Ivey Shuttleworth Society recognizes donors who have made a bequest or a gift of life insurance to LCF, honouring their foresight and generosity.
