Today, the Southwestern Ontario HUB is announcing funding to support 28 projects in Southwestern Ontario area as part of the first round of the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative. Through the $31-million Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, the Government of Canada, alongside Community Foundations of Canada, is building safer spaces and ensuring a higher quality of life for people across the country, by helping communities adapt to the challenges presented by COVID-19.

Read MoreThe London Community Foundation (LCF) announced today it has established a fund to support the London Muslim community in light of the horrific vehicle attack that killed a Muslim family Sunday evening.
The fund, named the Strong Together fund, will be seeded with an initial gift of $10,000 from LCF. The funds will be directed to the London Muslim Mosque and the Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration (MRCSSI). All donations will flow directly to these two organizations to support the Muslim community during this difficult time.

“It was a pretty tough time – lots of people suffered immensely during the Depression,” recalls Ron. “People would go up and down the street, begging for food, or work, or anything at all really. It wasn’t easy for most people, but luckily we managed to get by.”

“I had a very interesting experience traveling the coastlines by dog team or a ski-equipped airplane looking after the medical needs of small fishing communities,” recalls Gord. “I worked with a lot of wonderful people up there who lived off the land, without much disposable income. I donated books and things like that to the local school to help out the community whenever I could.”
