Koehler Family Fund
Koehler Family Fund
Marlene Koehler created the Koehler Family Fund to honour the legacies of her parents, Harold and Dorothy Koehler, and to support social and supportive housing and alleviate homelessness.
“I recognize that building endowments is an investment in London's future,” says Marlene. “I trust London Community Foundation to manage funds prudently and to help our family make personal and meaningful granting decisions.”
Before moving to London in 1989, Harold had been an activist in the peace and civil rights movements and social democratic activities generally. When the crisis in Oka erupted, he suddenly became aware of the untold histories and cultures of Canada's Indigenous Peoples. From then, he devoted much of his retirement to supporting the interests and causes of Indigenous Peoples in Southwestern Ontario.
Before retirement, Dorothy had been a foster parent, a neighbourhood childcare provider and a donor to international child-serving organizations.
The Koehlers will live on through the charitable granting this Donor-Designated Fund will make to the Unity Project, low-income child- and youth-serving programs, and Indigenous-led services for Indigenous Peoples.
